He doesn't ...
He's quite comfortable as sovereign Lord, and He really doesn't NEED us to constantly tell him how great and wonderful He is ... even if he is, and He IS both of those things and more.
Then, why do we worship?
Worship is a cross-cultural phenomenon. Everybody worships something, every culture has some form of worship. It is inherent in our DNA as humans to worship. God has created that need in all of us, universally. Our choice of what to worship is what interests God, I think.
We can choose that which we worship. We can choose money, sports figures, film stars, cars, boats,... you can even worship worship... BUT ... there is only One who is really WORTHY. And He is quite comfortable with that. He tells us clearly "I am the Lord your God ... you will have no other gods before me." But that's not for His benefit, it's for ours. He doesn't tell us to worship Him because He needs it. He commands us to worship Him because He knows WE need to... and He knows, because He designed us that way. It's part of the plan.
I see people screaming at football games and standing silently during worship. I see lines outside of movie theaters, bars, restaurants, art exhibits ... but it's been a LONG time since I saw standing room only in a worship service.
I think we have some choices to make... and just for the record, there were no chairs in Moses' or David's tabernacle. SRO, 24/7.
